Last Friday I had my first meeting at a major record label with Senior VP of A&R for Island Def Jam named Max Gousse. Max has been in the industry for a long time, with his bigger projects including Beyonce's B-day and I Am Sasha Fierce albums. He heard my music from another A&R and he reached out to to me to setup a meeting.
It was all kind of surreal.
One of the reasons I started writing blogs in the first place was to keep a diary of my progress in the music industry. Sometimes it's hard to see how far you've come when you live it everyday. But it's important to celebrate the small successes and remember it's about the daily journey, not one particular destination.
Lately I've been feeling unstimulated. There is definite evidence of progress with my music, opportunities coming my way, and the relationships I'm developing. But it's not exciting me for some reason.
I try to hype myself and keep myself motivated by writing down my daily successes. Like this past week I was approached with the opportunity to write a song for the remake of the movie "Dirty Dancing" whichIn sales I learned that each "no" is one step closer to a "yes". I learned the law of numbers can't be denied. And it takes the average person about 10,000 hours to master a skill. With those things in mind, I keep moving forward with only one goal in mind. Getting more songs done.
I think the most difficult thing about the music industry is the same thing that makes it fun. It's theThese past few weeks have been a whirlwind of opportunities just landing in my lap. I feel like I'm finally picking up momentum with my songwriting and everywhere I turn there is more good news. I've been appreciative of every blessing, but it really hit me while I was sitting in on Justin Bieber's session last night.
OMG what an amazing week! I don't even know where to start. First of all, I've been in the studio every single day to write/record a song each day. I've been working with professionals in the industry who are already signed to either major record labels or major publishers. And I've been able to work out of professional studios!
