The Faces of Depression
Depression is a medical illness that involves the mind and body. It is more than just a bout of the blues, nor is it something you can just simply “snap out of”. Depression is not a weakness, a sign of being lazy, feeling sorry for yourself and many other stereo type stigmas that are associated with this illness.
It is estimated that 19 million American adults are living with major depression. That is 1 about in 10 people.
Major depression affects a person’s family, personal relationships, work, sleep, eating habits and general health.
The signs of depression are:
Sadness, anxiety, irritability
Loss of energy
Feelings of guilt, hopelessness, or worthlessness
Loss of interest or enjoyment from things that were once pleasurable
Difficulty concentration
Uncontrollable crying
Difficulty making decisions
Increase need for sleep
Insomnia
Change in appetite causing weight loss or gain
The worst is
Thoughts of death or suicide
Attempting suicide
