"some facts about Christmas"

'

Christmas history actually dates back to over 4,000 years ago.

Yes, even the traditional gift-giving, Yule log, parades and floats, and strolling singers, complete with dinner feasts and church celebrations took place back then.

Ancient Greeks, Romans, Scandinavians - All had festivals and celebrations primarily to honor their gods (Kronos, Zeus, Saturn and others) at or near what we know now as Christmas day. http://posts.fanbox.com/s2nc4

Often they would have New Year masquerades as well and it was common for rituals to include the trading of places between masters and slaves.

Early day Christian followers saw the Christmas holiday as solemn and religious and only about the birthday of Christ.

With time, Christians accepted the idea of a more festive celebration in honor of the Christian Son of God, and became less rigid with their acceptance of Christmas holiday festivities.

Historical records are not readily available regarding the exact day and/or date, but tradition has us celebrating his birth since 98 AD.

It's popularity spread throughout the 1500's and is credited with the origination of Protestants, who were 'evil' to Christians.
