cannot avoid abstention. Taking a casual drinkfrom time to time is something individuals tend to do at parties, and during the weekends. There are also great deals of that come with the holidays. This ends up making it really hard to stay away from drinking for many out there. Of course there is a way to help deter a hangover even if you drink and that is by drinking in moderation. You can also squeeze a non-alcoholic beverage in between your drinks as to help keep your body hydrated. This may not guarantee that you will get no hangover but it will help you prevent thesymptoms of a strong one. There are quite a few people who will tell you that the best cure for a hangover is having another drink. That is not only totally incorrect but also quite dangerous. While more alcohol may temporarily ease your headache and dull your symptoms it can end up hurting you in the long run. This can easily lead toalcohol addiction and
dependency. Also, the severer part of the hangoversymptoms go into full effect as soon as the drinker’s blood alcohol content goes back to zero. Charles Cutler, M.D. who is an internist in Norristown, Pennsylvania warns people that the "Worst thing to do when you have a hangover is to have another drink" One of the reasons for this is because alcohol is toxic and having that extra drink can end up giving you an even greater hangover to deal with the following day. If you give your more alcohol to metabolize and deal with then you will end up increasing your pain and anguish later on.
So while the thought of having a Bloody Mary to ease your pain may sound like a good idea, drinking a Virgin Mary is actually quite better for you as far as a morning after drink.
- Getting rid of a hangover
Most regular, heavy drinkers always turn to aspirin or ibuprofen as a way to try and alleviate or diminish the continuous headaches, non-stop head pounding and aches that affect them following a night of partying and heavy drinking. Another form of relief used as a hangover remedy is Acetaminophen (Tylenol). However, Dr.. Cutler warns regular, heavy drinkers to be careful what they choose since they could end up doing some damage to their stomach lining. Even worse, taking over-the-counter painkillers such as Advil can amplify and worsen those problems as well as cause bleeding. They can also be very hazardous largely due to the likelihood of liver damage it may cause.
Attempts to prevent hangover
There are others who end up taking acetaminophen before going to bed after they spent the night out drinkingas a way to try and prevent a hangover the following day. While this may seem to make sense to some, it fails based on the following. First, when the liver is busy processing the alcohol the drinker consumed earlier it is not able to process acetaminophen as it normally would. This in turn can end causing permanent liver damageas well as liver inflammation. Second, any acetaminophen (Tylenol) you take will in all likelihood wear off way before the hangover symptoms begin to take effect.
Tip: Most people tend to feel a sense of desperation when feeling hangover headaches and are likely to take more aspirin or pain remedy than normal. If you do take some, do so in moderation. (We do not recommend taking at all)
