Do Hangover Products Work?

Tips on How to Prevent a Hangover - Hangover RemediesThere are a vast variety of products claiming to have the cure or laying claim to being able to help prevent hangovers out there these days. Marketed as cures for hangovers as well as 'hangover helpers' there are many people who buy these products trying to desperately beat or avoid a hangover. Most notably are products such as PreToxx, RU 21 and Chaser just to name a few. However, there is no real proof or very little scientific evidence to support the claims that these products make. Studies have shown that these hangover pills or hangover drinks are very ineffective and do not really help relieve hangovers. They may help against some of the problems, but not all. This is according to an assistant professor a Utrecht University in the Netherlands named Joris C. Vester, Ph. D., who spends his time studying hangovers. A placebo-controlled study of hangover remedies found the there is no real evidence to support the claims of these products or for using them. Dr., Cutler goes on to say that "You could probably buy a generically similar product for a third of the price with the same benefits these products claim to offer" He also  adds that "Taking multivitamins as a way to restore the nutrients your body loses during heavy drinking may help even more"

Some people believe that you should exercise as a way to help you counter the ill effects of a hangover. However, since exercise requires nutrition and hydration it can be a problem. This is because most people who drank heavily the day before are very likely to be dehydrated and metabolically behind on their nutrition. Dr., Cutler says "That while exercising is always the right thing to do, it is not something you really need on the morning you wake up with a hangover."  He then goes on to say that "Rest, is what your body really needs"

 

 

How About an Alka-Seltzer for That Hangover?
