I love FanBox because it allows me to write and share my thoughts concerning controversial topics such as this one. Writing Blogs can sometimes get the creator of a post in hot water because the writer’s content may ruffle feathers of top officials and their underlings.

i dont have any idea to how to prevent blacklisting and all , but i am glad you brought up this topic .

This is something no one wants to see happen on a writing site or social network site. Blacklisting can come back on those who do the blacklisting of others. FanBox spoke of forming groups to police the site, not sure if they are still talking about this or not. I would love to see a morals commit y that stopped the nudity on here. We have lost some really good members do to the nudity on the site that is not always caught or reported. You have brought up an interesting topic.

Thank you Angeline for your comments and support! I have been known to write some very controversial articles from time to time. :-))
however, I feel that when we come together as a community we can discuss things openly and intelligently and find the answers needed through brain storming together as a community.

Awesome topic Michael! You never cease to amaze me my dear friend..this is very interesting. I could not imagine be blacklisted that would make life miserable. :)

Thank you for your comments and support of this article Lorrie. Unfortunately this practice is alive and well and I think in my opinion that when this happens in any community that everyone loses in one form or another. :-)

I also feel that a morals committee apart from our great success coaches would be a big plus and help to strengthen the moral fabric of our awesome community. FanBox is all about education and second chances. A morals committee can handle a wide variety of issues that may arrive, such as nudity, success coach nomination which are rejected for whatever reasons etc. and examine the evidence presented from all concerned and make the final decisions on just about any matter that may arrive.

This is just a thought and it would free up are awesome success coaches etc... from making these calls and allow them to get on with the business of helping others graduate. :-))

Nice article. In my opinion it is fair to option of blocking or blacklisting. It doesn't seem unfair to me being some of users/ websites who use porn and sort of material we are not interested in, In that case we shall use this black button.

hi Michel Jenning,

thanks for the information about the blacklist, what is the reason for blacklist, is it right or wrong or unfair practice, blacklist can be done when violating rules, but due innocence some may do violating rules, giving first, second and third warnings, still the member does not stop practice of violating rule, then blacklist the member, have a nice day

Anill, kopparapu, and Ramarao, I think you three may have missed the point of this article completely. However, thank you for your thoughts and opinions.

I believe what you are suggesting is a discussion on the viability of adding to the FanBox model of members' governing structure an Ethics Committee that can work as a check and balance and also as a relief from all issues falling on one faction. Very interesting idea.

FanBox itself has pursued the governmental structure analogy for their model, as evidenced from the February webinar "Future of FanBox" and made the point that it is not intending to create a "top" where certain members are privileged and hold absolute power. When the leaders shaping the governmental model of the United States wanted to protect individual freedoms and prevent the government from abusing it's power, they created a system of checks and balance by installing three branches that would be accountable to the people and to each other ... the executive, legislative and judicial.

Blacklisting is a heinous practice conducted in governments and in private business whereby someone is "accused" and yet given no process of defense, review, or chance at reinstatement and is blocked from major privileges such as ability to earn that others are allowed. It is done behind closed doors One of the most appalling and famous cases was in the McCarthy era, when people were accused of being members of the communist party and "blocked" from being hired in any capacity. The response of many of the accused was to resort to pseudonyms in order to continue to make a living in their profession. This is one of the dangers of blacklisting and censorship, in that it does not deal with anything, but does force behavior underground. There it often festers into open rebellion on a larger scale later. Blacklisting is difficult to prove and impossible to fight in normal ways because it is done behind closed doors and closed communications. Does it happen? History proves it does. The adage goes that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Are we in danger of it as FanBox is currently shaping? It's difficult to say. I agree with you that most of our Success Coaches are hard working and fair.

So why an Ethics or Morals committee? For most entities that form them, it was llegal, regulatory, and professional forces that drove their development, particularly as an alternative to litigation. Second, they are often a response to a perceived need for a formal mechanism to address value conflicts and uncertainties that arise in contemporary community settings.

I could be in support of a three-fold ethics function including education, policy formation and review and ethics consultation of and for members. That we are dealing with a private company is not an obstacle as eithics committees are an intergral part of many private orgainizations, especially ones where value laden issues are overwhelming, such as hospitals.

I believe though that a lot of education and discussion of this issue is warranted . As you can see from your responses here, most members are not understanding what blacklisting is or why it is a very possible pitfall in the type of member governing structure we have shaping up here in this community. I believe this is why many other online communities shy away from the model. I commend FanBox for their progressive and aggressive determination to pursue this exciting and dynamic experiment.

Excellent topic - I'll certainly be doing a lot more research on it.

I love the members of the FanBox community and want us to be the best of the best. I'm proud to be a member and I believe as we all work to bring our A-Game and support one another and respectfully seek to work it out when things need to change, we are gong to continue to rock the online industry. It is my hope that this opening dialogue on role of ethics committees will be helpful to all of us, members, Success Coaches, and management as we meet the challenges of dealing with the value conflicts and uncertainties that arise in our own community.

Thank you Gerry for your comments, thoughts and ideas! This is the kind of dialog which is needed and is very educational and thought provoking too. Well said! And thanks so much for sharing with everyone too.

Blacking listing = witch hunting = same + same.

Hi Michael. What an excellent (and necessary) topic. I like one paragraph in particular, because it clearly explains the existence of Blacklisting. If you didn’t say anything else, that paragraph alone, would have justified the necessity of discussing this topic. Why Blacklisting exists. “Mostly because companies and leaders are lacking the time or skills to fix issues openly, discus problems that arise within its structuring”
For the sake of time and space, let’s abbreviate Black List to BL. Careful though when you type it, since a single letter may completely change the meaning of the word. Sorry, I couldn’t resisted making that unnecessary comment :-).

Whenever you have any kind of social interaction, networking and what not, you have the potential for BL. I know that I am always in danger of landing on a BL (if there is one) wherever I go. I have a “talent” for rocking the boat. Being outspoken doesn’t always serve me well, still I can’t help it. We needed this place where everyone should feel free to express their thoughts.

Also, I think that a Moral Comity is not only a good idea, but a necessity. If FanBox is to develop into a solid, prestigious organization (as I know their vision and direction is) having a MC will insure the integrity of FanBox.

Great article Michael. I hope many will have the “desire” to share their honest opinion. The opportunity of expressing our opinion in a respectful way, without the concern of landing on a potential BL, will actually prove the direction of FB.

All this being said, I have to acknowledge that I, myself, have a great report with fb. They have listened to all my concerns, and are making every effort to address them.

I want to thank everyone for sharing their thoughts on this subject matter and encourage everyone to do so without fear and open honesty because this is one of the things that make us stand out as a great community in the eyes of others.
