Profanities should be disallowed, to show respect to most members, who I believe agree with me. This is just my humble opinion.

come on now rules of joining is the age of 18 come on step out your door kids 14 15 year olds swear i mean you chose who you fan and whose stuff you read dont want to read it dont i think also depends how word is used how much it is. come on songs have profanity and sometimes youtube doesnt have an edited version of it. just a thought

I'd prefer to not be exposed to it, profanity I mean, if I had a choice. I don't think it is necessary to use it to make a point or to catch someone's attention. What is more confusing to me though is not being able to use the word s e x, as it is a natural part of life, and just using the word i shouldn't think would be offensive to anyone if used in a mature and respectful way of others.

Sometimes I like to visit new fans' posts. If there is a warning then I can choose to read it or not. I myself do not like to come to a new fan's post - and find out it has profanity, which I find offensive, and many others do also. We may all be grown ups, and profanity may not offend some, but do offend others. It's only showing respect to others wishes.

@glenway, you must be able to use the word sex now (anyone can correct me if I am wrong), I've seen the word describing men's genitals.

Our fore fathers shed blood for the right to have " FREEDOM OF SPEECH "
as much as I see your points is as much as all i will say...
BE COOL TO EACH OTHER !! PEACE !!

Now haveing said this I put up a video of how to be cool & just go with the flow !
It's one of lifes choices you can be a friend/ fan of who you choose ,
Sad fact is many dont have right to choose in there own countries.. thats why Ithink social media Rocks !! we can all have an outlet of our thoughts !! now you have the right to be my fan or not either way is cool... Peace !!

Thanks for your comments Alex. Be that as it were.....if people choose to use profanity in their blogs....I think it would be a good idea for them to state at the beginning of their blog to let the reader know in advance if they wish to proceed with it, out of courtesy.

I understand it if some people wish to express themselves in that way, but I wouldn't want to have to read it if I didn't want to. Sure we can make the choice to read a blog or not, but at the same time, if there is no warning beforehand that the blog contains such language, then I wouldn't be able to avoid it as such.

Nice post Jan. I agree with you. I think it is just unnecessary.

Great posting

I emailed about the same thing but the other side of it. Freedom of speech and freedom of expression in all forms is important, now I wasnt planning on dropping the f bomb every other word but Id like to be able to use the language I feel comfortable with. A few other people have made the point that if it has words, phrases or thoughts that you dont approve of, then dont be their fan, dont read their stuff but dont try to limit others because of your own narrow veiws. Im pretty sure you have to be at least 18 to join fanbox so if we are all grown ups here, I say please.....lets grow up shall we, life goes on and there are bigger, more important issues to be delt with in my opinion. Keep up the good work, striking a nerve is important and youve done that. Bravo

What's everyone else's opinion? Do you care at all about reading something and you come to some profanity? Wouldn't you be offended? I really don't want to have to read it, and if I knew at the beginning of the post then I'd appreciate a warning!

I am against organized censorship in any way, shape or form. I believe the downside of censoring language far outweighs the benefits. It can be taken too far and result in a freeze on communication and creativity. That said, profane language is not the best way to express deep and profound thoughts and we should refrain from using profane and dirty language in a public forum such as Fanbox. There is a time and a place for everything.

Great idea Jan to post Your conversation with J C..
Agree with Esti .

Ivy , why do you need to use such words as a blogger ?
Here you are in touch with the world and why you should feel that way to use ,,such words..
Well i believe we all of us are using such words in different situations.
The best example when you are driving , stuck in traffic , or any other situation not pleasant.
Why we should use ,,such words at Fanbox? Is a pleasant place, so give the best of yourself.
Why we should give ,,such words?
It doesn't make sense to me and Honestly is not positive attitude.
Agree with J C that others websites allow to talk free , others websites are not as FanBox and i totally agree against to ,,such words''.

Is ok once in a while you to use ,,such words '' , but why at FanBox? You are a blogger.
You deliver a passion , a feeling , positive attitude, informations, your life style in a blog , your thinking in a blog !
Well i should stop my comment is kind of long

Jan- For some reason I thought I had already commented on this but I'm seeing that I didn't. I believe we should be allowed to use whatever language we feel is best for our blog and our mood at that moment. Saying that I completely understand where you are coming from on some may want a warning. So when I went to the meeting I did bring up your point and through an idea out there of there being a box to check for adult content this way if there is cursing or anything along those line when you are filling out all the tags and title you check the box that say adult content this way it warns the readers. As for marking it like the movies I think that would be a bit more difficult, considering some would rate differently. I thought a check box stating adult content was a good compromise what do you think??

Thanks Nicoleta & Jenny for your comments.

Nicoleta, it does bring negativity to the site and I understand some people may want to use that type of language as it is part of their mindset, but I don't think I should have to put up with it, or have it pop up in front of me as a choice.

That's why per your comment Jenny, I agree there should be a checkbox to indicate BEFORE reading a blog that there is such language contained in a specific blog to warn the reader if they choose to go ahead and read it.

Sure I can choose to follow whichever blogger, but I may enjoy their other blogs which do not contain that sort of thing, dirty jokes or what have you.

i was brought up against profanity and have instilled and expect the same from my children. I always tell them they are representing our family name...so where it with pride and dignity

I've seen an interview of someone, who had grown up in an environment where swearing was something they did everyday, and so it's normal for them (unfortunately). A lot of the young people I find don't give it a second thought either.....language which really is, again unfortunately, a normal part of a lot of people's communication. Thanks for your visit Judith.
