It’s Not Me, It’s Facebook

I won’t lie. I’ve just spent the past thirty minutes Google-stalking two former friends and an old boyfriend or seven. We all do it. We’re supposed to be working, the Internet beckons, and bam-an hour goes by and we’re updated on the life of our fifth grade boyfriend or that girl we were friends with for one week in college.

Usually, I’m just curious. It’s nice to go on Facebook, Twitter, or the like and find and old friendly face, someone I always liked with whom I simply lost touch for no other reason than we did. I love seeing what happened to my favorite friends from high school and where their life has taken them. I get to see photos of my sister’s kid, who live far enough away that I don’t see them often. And I get feel like I’m connected to people with whom I don’t always have time to connect.

But if I were to be really honest, the real fun is when I catch an online glimpse of a former bestie who did me wrong on an ex who broke my heart. There is a quiet satisfaction in seeing their relationship status listed as, “It’s Complicated”
