My first call was ages ago. I was young and very impressionable.  I wanted to save the world.  I felt as though I had so much power...carrying peoples lives in the palm of my hand. It was glorious. That was then. My first call came in as a cardiac arrest, not breathing.  We arrived on scene and my heart was racing.  I found an elderly woman laying on her living room floor. She looked every bit of dead. The first time I had encountered a dead body. I immediately began pumping on her chest with CPR while my EMT did rescue breathing with a bag-valve mask. A little unknown fact...any CPR compressions done right will break all the ribs in the sternal area. CRACK CRACK CRACK. Especially in the elderly. I was freaked out! YUCK! Anyway, this woman, in her 70's, chose not to seek

agree with you Pete...but at first, I really could not keep myself from grimacing and saying..ewww as I read the first couple of paragraphs. I'm not really used to seeing these kind of things (I love to watch ER though when it was still being aired here)..I think it's just different when you read (especially when it's written as detailed as you've expressed it in this post --GREAT :-)) the world needs more people like you..keep it up! Thanks for sharing your experience :-) Enjoy an awesome day...

Wow that was an amazing story. It's a miracle in itself that the woman even survived. Thanks to you keeping your composure and doing your job that woman lived to see a few more years. Thanks for sharing.
