Most couples deal with common marital problems: money, household chores, health issues, different schedules, sex, disciplining children, different values, and the list goes on and on. But only a few couples remain together to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, and still enjoy each other’s company. This article is for you if you feel your marriage can be much better than it is. You are convinced, but your spouse is not. How do you persuade him to work with you toward a better relationship? Follow these steps to get his attention and begin to resolve marital problems.

Love Him
This may seem like putting the cart before the horse, but trying to solve marriage problems while withholding your love is like shooting yourself (or your marriage) in the foot. Make sure your spouse’s cup of love is full: Give him plenty of affection and loving words. Affirm and praise him. Offer your help if you know he would like it, or do things for him to relieve his load. Give him little gifts or treats that let him know you were thinking of him. Clear your schedule to spend one-on-one time with him. You may find that the cause of your marital problems was not his stubbornness after all; it was your failure to meet his emotional needs. Showing your love to him, especially when he knows you have a grievance against him, is the most powerful way to get his attention.

Be Attractive
Give him a reason to be drawn to you, like a bear to honey. Take care of your physical appearance: Fix your hair and makeup and dress in a way you know he appreciates (not all men are attracted to an overly made-up face).

Do it in such a way that he knows your effort is for him, not other people. Make your behavior attractive as well. Are you kind, compassionate and fun to be around? Why should he want to work on problems if you are always complaining, sour and miserable?

Talk
Leave nagging (cajoling, needling, whining, begging, badgering, pestering, harassing) out of your conversation. Most likely you have already talked the issue into the ground. If you have not resolved it, or come to some sort of agreement
