It may lead to a controversy if I make any comment over this issue.but I wont take only islam..its almost every religion used the women as property..not as human being now in present modern time in many religions either by the revolutions by women or by the demand of the time and by seeing the talent of the women in construction of society ,women are getting their rights ..as the post say four wives issue .. then it was not only in islam but also in other religions too but all were in past .most of religions have recognised the women roles and now have made the legal laws about marriage ie one wife one man...
its 21th century women are not any property...and the rules of holy books might be based on olden time to give the social security to the women..but time has changed now ..we have the example if we give freedom to women they can do everything just as a man does..in every field in society.
and no religion or holy book discriminates in woman and man...they are equal..but its the men who interprete in wrong ways to dominate the woman ..it sad but true..
In islam if u see the holy books say a man cant marry to a girl until she says yes in a marriage..that is the big right for a girl by any religion but men still misused that ..by using external pressure on girl to say yes..so its all man who is responsible not the religion or holybooks for any exploitations of woman in any religion...The post was abt islam.. i gave islamic examples but similar problems being in every religion almost for women rights , but women fought and fighting ans showing their talent and efficiency ..I hope some day they wil be equal everywhere in the world

In my opinion, having more than one wife is not acceptable whether it is in Muslim religion or in any other religion. It has to be abandoned as soon as possible

in my view i am not agreeing on many marriages or having many wives, because actually marriage has a sanctity that you will live both together with love, so if you have many wives how can you live with love?

of course, filipino are loyals to thier wife because here in our country marriage is sacred for us cause its a commitment in the eye of God....Thats why filipino have only one wife

As a muslim I knew this by the time my uncle had his 3rd. On paper yes you are allowed to have 4 at a time BUT there's more sentence in the Holy Quran about not being fair, not enough bread, not enough love THAN U BETTER KEEP ONLY ONE! Why welcome more sinful act as not being fair and so on when you are granted more goodness by only a wife and blessed children? As Leny Wind said, most women disagree with polygamy unless theres something wrong with them, wouldnt have sex, career demand, dont want children etc than pleazzzeeee dont be selfish and let us men get the permit, ha..ha..ha...

In my opinion, polygamy will not yield any result.. it will only lead to poverty.. so I am happy with only one wife...

how many permitted? is hard to answer. but in my opinion every women/wife in her deeply heart never want her man/husband has another wife. even a wife who had a big wisdom, big patient heart and she would like that her husband has another wife, she has fells sad about that. But with the condition from Holy Quran that a man who has 4 wife must be fair, faith for one and another equally and can make living together in good well, harmony, peace full .... i thing no man can do that, except the man who Allah give Him Blessing.
I agree with you Sake. No man can have equal love for everybody even if they are a part of his family. The best thing is to have a wife and dedicate all our time for her and love her, care her with all our mights.

one God one wife...what i mean is that if you believe in ONE GOD then you should have only one wife.If you can give your love to one GOD there's no reason why not care for one wife.

I believe that no one should past judgement on how any people want to live, as long as they are not stopping you from living the way you want to. Here in the US we still have the Mormons in Utah that do have multiple wives. The woman are not forced into it. They like it because it's not lonely. They have a large family. They can support it because beside the man , the some of the women can have a job and others can stay home and take care of the family. The husband certainly doesn't have time to go out and cheat on his wives, nor does he need to. There is a law against it, but not in the Constitution. So I believe the law is unConstitutional. First of all I don't believe that any government has the right to say who gets married. Mostly it's the religions who do. But not all belong to any religion. Some people may be atheists or want to have a direct relationship with God. Marriage licences started in the civil war, because the government didn't want whites marring with blacks.
