The Trail of Tears

The Trail of Tears

Early in the 19th century, while the rapidly-growing United States expanded into the lower South, white settlers faced what they considered an obstacle. This area was home to the Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chicasaw and Seminole nations. These Indian nations, in the view of the settlers and many other white Americans, were standing in the way of progress. Eager for land to raise cotton, the settlers pressured the federal government to acquire Indian territory.

Very good piece. Well written as well as informative. My grandmother's family traveled the Trail of Tears. Yes, at least of the daughters died.

Upon seeing the title, I knew then that the story was abaout the 'the trail that they cried'. This was a heartbreaking story about how Indians were forced to vacate their lands. I read from a novel and i could not blame why they hated the whites so much. Thank you for sharing this historical event of Indian lives.
