Riss Ryker helps fight animal cruelty.

I am concerned. My daughter is severly overweight and at a critical point in her life where suicide is a thought, and self hatred is a lifestyle. No one, especially her peers, know the extent of her pain, her self loathing, and her longing to be like other girls her age. No longer does she enjoy things she once loved, like swimming, or sports, or buying new clothes. The mirror and the scale have become her enemy, and even refusal to seek medical care when needed, because she may have to step up on a scale, is a concern. Next week my daughter goes a residentual treatment center for adolescent eating disorders. I am going to document her success, and I say success because I refuse to believe in anything BUT success for my daughter. My heart is torn to shreds watching this 14 yr. old struggle with every day life that we all take for granted. She is brave, she is talented and these blogs will continue as she endeavors on a journey into the discovery of herself. Below is a little history explaining about childhood eating disorders. Read and educate yourselves...

my son is in the same situation 14 years old, increasing height wise, girth wise and weight wise too, not going out to play , sitting in front of the computer all day, getting hungry after every two hours or so... i will also have to resort to medical care for him..within a year..if he does not abide by his promise of changing his eating habits and goes out to play and exercise.

There is nothing to worry about. You know the present day scenario of the teen agers. No out door activities. Computer, tv and cell phones are their only mates. To add to the curse the food habits. This is not a illness a doc can handle. this is to be rectified by changing our life style. i don't think I should elaborate more on this as you know better.

Riss I understand where your daughter is right now. We had a child that not only quit eating to stay skinny but was on the brink of being anorexic. She went the total other direction even though she was not fat. Children, or adolescense as we call them tend to let the pressures of life the biggest one being peer pressure absorb them and take up there time with judging there look against the look of others. God created us the way we are and to judge ourseves against others is not what God intented us to do. I am sure she is beautiful just the way she is and given a few years more of growth she will shed the extra pounds she is living with. Children change into beautiful things no matter how big or small. It is just God's way. I have a song for her to listen to that my son will be releasing shortly on his cd that talks about the pressures of life and suicide in kids and adults. It is not what God has intended for us. He is a christian rap artist and does a great job reaching kids. I will post the song as soon as the album is released sometime this week. You can check it out in a blog post on my fan box. Hope it helps her. In the mean time Keep looking up for our God is good.

Troy, what a wonderful person you are to respond to my daughters pain. Yes, God is good, in so many ways. I look forward to hearing your sons song!

Update: My daughter has not lost any weight, but mentally she has come to terms with herself. She does go to counseling, knows what she has to do, but most of all, she is OK.
Thanks, all for reading.
