Skyscrapers In Film

by Armil & Grace on September 01, 2011

Skyscrapers provoke a unique sense of strength, security and isolation that is hard to capture in any other form of architecture. In films, skyscrapers often symbolize money or authority.

These mammoth structures provide the perfect setting for a dramatic urban film. They can provide an arena for hostage scenes, heists, and natural disasters such as fires or earthquakes. As a symbol of strength, Skyscrapers are often destroyed in films trying to show the power of nature or an outside force. As a film cliché, older movies often start off showing the outside of a skyscraper with a voice-over, proceeding into an office of a corporate giant or crime boss.
