700 people were killed in an earthquake in Chile, but the movement of crustal plates of Earth's 7 billion people in all affected. Moved away from the planet's axis, and the days are becoming shorter.
The only earthquakes from nearby regions, kill and destroy, but the largest earthquakes to have an impact on the entire planet. Richard Gross, NASA's associate calculated that the Chile earthquake on February 27 changed how the Earth's rotation. Complex computer models that the days are shorter than 1.26 seconds per million. This is only a preliminary estimate, which may change when the data are analyzed for accuracy.

Even more spectacular changes in the Earth's axis of rotation. Gross estimates that the axis of rotation - which is distributed around the Earth's mass - about 8 inches moved. The axis of rotation is different from the magnetic axis.

In 2004, the 9.1 Sumatra earthquake's force was much more destructive chileinél, two hundred thousand deaths. A second quake of about 6.8 million shortened the length of days, but the shaft is shifted only 7 inches.

The Chilean earthquake was more moved by the shaft, because of mid-latitudes, while the Sumatran earthquake was near the equator. Second, the Chilean oceanic crustal plates to break line at an angle steeper fall of the land under the bark. For these reasons, the Chilean earthquakes greater impact on the Earth's mass distribution, and more easily be able to move the rotation axis.

Why are the days are shorter? The best explanation is not a science lab, but the Olympics can be found. The spinning skaters hauled in their hands, the faster rotation. The same happens when the crust of the Earth's center to push the planet's rotation speeds up.
