Foe Turned Friend

by Power User * Arlene * on September 13, 2011

When I first arrived in the United States at the age of four, I was a skinny runt who had so much to learn. If you haven't already ready my story of how I arrived in America, I would recommend you reading it first. So I had barely arrived and was just getting acclimated to the American way of life when my parents enrolled me in school and I found myself beginning Kindergarten.

I remember that first year being really tough for me because I was struggling with having to learn English and trying to fit in. It wasn't easy for me to fit in considering I stood out like a sore thumb. I was the only little Asian girl in my class, and I got picked on constantly because I looked and sounded so different from the rest of the kids.

You are correct in yor thinking most people who act in such a manner have a void in their lives and need outside assurance from other people to feel good about them self. Beleive it or not but a smile always works on a person who is mad at something or someone cause it always throws them for a loop. great post I enjoyed reading your story.

Very good post. There is always a good trait in every individual. Once you push that button, change of attitude and character can surprisingly happen.

@ Jan: Thank you for reading my post, and for the kind words! You're a wonderful friend.

@ Tammy: Yes, there are still plenty of bullies out there...I was bullied a lot when I was a kid so I can relate to the kids that are currently being picked on.
