My 21 year old son, Paul, is adept at using chopsticks. His sister and I noticed this tonight when we went to a new noodle bar in Botanic Avenue for tea. Once or twice a month, I try to get up to Belfast, to see my two children, both students at Queens University now. The offer of a meal out is just about the only way I can spend a few hours talking to them, nowadays.

But there was a time when I didn’t think it would ever be this way. You see, when Paul was only 11 years old, his estranged father abducted him and took him to Thailand and refused to bring him back.
