This is the story about a Sea Sleetproof Srationary Platform by the example of the oil derrick in the Caspian sea. It started its work in 2010 so it is quite new. The expected service life is about 30 years. Though the platform is located in the sea center the depth there is only 12 metres and the water is pure.

The derrick has 2 parts connected by the 74-metres bridge. 118 workers live in the dwelling block. Swimming, fishing and litter throwing is strictly forbidden, smoking is allowed only in one place. Workers could easily be fired for a cigarette butt thrown in the sea.

The name “sleetproof” is because of the winter ice that the derrick has to resist.

This hose poures the sea water used for cooling.

The emergency ship always runs about ready to evacuate people from the platform.

Workers get here by a helicopter in an hour.

Before flight they listen to instructions and put on life jackets.

Then instructions about accident preventions.

No way without helmets, special boots and jackets.

“Safety first”. Of course, it is so as the platform is a very dangerous place.

Lifeboats that can find room for all 118 workers. “Titanic” would envy…
