Understanding FanBox's Purpose, part 1:
The Knowledge Revolution
Overview
Around 100 years ago, 90% of people earned their living by getting things out of the ground or out of machines -- or, transporting those things from one place to another.
In other words, almost everyone performed one of these three (3) activities:
Growing things (agriculture):
Making things (manufacturing):
Or moving things (transportation):
The others -- less than10% of people -- made their living as “Knowledge Workers”.
Knowledge Workers were people like doctors…
lawyers….
teachers….
and salespeople…
– and they earned their pay by selling their knowledge to their customers (their clients or employers).

Throughout the last century and a half, technologies were invented that made farmers and factory workers more efficient.
Those technologies included electricity…
and the electric motor…
the internal combustion engine….
and new materials, chemicals and fertilizers….
Thanks to these technological inventions, less workers were needed to grow, make and move things, because:
-- Each farmer could grow many times more crops
-- Machines got better and better, so that only one or two workers were needed to operate them
-- Few or even only one worker (a driver) was required to move massive amounts of things using trucks, trains and boats
In other words, technology enabled massive productivity gains for farmers and industrial workers.
The evidence:
Today less than 10% of people grow, make or move things.
The Agricultural and Industrial Revolutions were indeed REVOLUTIONS.
As a result, today over 90% of us are Knowledge Workers.
And the Knowledge Revolution has begun.

Based on this post, Fanbox is heading for more public development and service. Let us hope and pray that, like a train going towards it's target destination, it may never be derailed to go somewhere else instead. Nobody can tell the future and nobody can say what the future holds for everyone.
I believe most of those knowledge workers will one day end up growing things too... I know for a fact, my late old man, in law that is, went back to farming after his retirement and succeeded in growing acres and acres of oil palm. And there are quite many others like him. Great post.
Dan Hassan, your position is a very valid one.
Nevertheless, the lesson here is not intended to exclude us from growing things. In my humble view, we need to be growing things even as knowledge producers.
There are reasons why we should be doing this; and some of these reasons are: (1) It enables us to make extra income. (2) It is beautiful engaging oneself in many forms of production as we are enabled to appreciate ourselves through fruitful engagement not only as knowledge producers but even as people who are physically engaged. (3) Physical engagement not only avail us the opportunity to make money but helps our health by enabling blood circulation. (4) If you would love to live long, try as much as possible to be often in contact with nature.
Therefore, by my going to engage in growing things, for instance, one is making a marvelous encounter with Mother Earth.
Beside, as we respectfully relate with Mother Earth, we bring healing not only to ourselves, but to her also.
As we do so, we'll be asking her to forgive us our arrogance and ignorance. Our arrogance and ignorance which causes us to act in manners which dishonor our bond with her, our Mother. Our words will do little to change this behavior but we offer them, nonetheless, in the certainty that, even in our darkest depravity, you continue to love us as your children.
We've been over exploiting her patience. Yes, we know her patience is seemingly infinite, but she has started to complain. Shall we begin to listen?
Create a farm/garden at the back of your house!
Please better we advise ourselves here and now, that the gains of physical engagements are unquantifiable as keeping ourselves and loved ones engaged through physical, mental and social activities will create positive experiences that diminish the stress and unwanted behaviors that often accompany Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Activities can also build self-esteem, enhance physical strength, and help with activities of daily living. God bless you!
