It is difficult to define what makes a good diary or collection of letters for dramatization but first of all the writer must have a keen eye for their own world and the people around them and at least an awareness of the bigger picture beyond that world in terms of the history they are living through.
This doesn't mean that the writing needs to be political but it does need to provide a tapestry of the social life and mores of their time if we are to find it interesting.
