It's no secret, I enjoy movies. Today I would like to start my first Top Ten list. In order to make my lists workable, I will create each for a particular genera. Today I will tackle one of my favorite types of movies; The Science Fiction film. Ever since film makers started producing moving images on screens, the fantastic and fanciful has attracted them. The French filmmaker George Melies astounded audiences of 1902 with his "A Trip To The Moon" From the very beginning, movies have had the ability to take us to places we could only imagine; Landscapes of unknown planets and alien civilizations, Times far in the remote past, to worlds of the future. Such have been the backdrops of the Science Fiction movie. Of course, effects alone can not sustain a movie, there has to be a gripping and compelling story, Science Fiction movies are not lacking for drama. There are tales of exploration and conquest, tales of adversity, battles between good and evil. Their scope ranges from intimate refelections of our world, to vast and epic dramas spanning limitless time and space.
I would like to present my list of the top ten best Science Fiction movies ever made. A tall order, with a tremendous body of works to be considered, to be sure. Please save your applause, (or boos), till the list is complete. Lets start at the bottom of the list and work our way up to the first place winner.
10) Gattaca (1997) this is a story of human ingenuity overcoming physical handicaps and succeeding against all odds. "A genetically inferior man assumes the identity of a superior one in order to pursue his lifelong dream of space travel." The movie had an excellent cast, was beautifully filmed, and was deeply moving. The human drama presented by a literate script, held my intrest. This is an adult film and will not insult your intelligence. It stared Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman.
9) Planet of the Apes (1968) Adventure, wonder and an iconic endng that will remain with you. These are the words to describe this gem of a Science Fiction movie. Charlton Heston stars as an astronaut who crash landed on a planet far in the future. He confonts a civilization where Apes are the intelligent ruling species, and humans are the hunted wild animals. Rod Serling Borrowed a little from Jonathan Swift in this cautionary tale. The movie has a great sense ofAdult content and certain language are not permitted in premium blog posts.

Hi Ivor,
like the idea of this top ten list. Not entirely in agreement with the choices however what a dull world it would be if we all agreed.
Guess I might have to think about a list of my own as well.
Regards
Ray
