EDINBURGH FESTIVAL EMAIL #4

Sorry for delay, long Easter Break and ANZAC day in Australia set me back a bit.

 A couple of years ago I attended the Edinburgh Comedy festival in a live show based on the TV show  "Faulty Towers". Due to the budget we stayed in student accommodation my 10' x 6' room I called "my cell". These are the emails I sent home during that tour. I hope you enjoy.

 

Well we are off and racing ..... first show last night to a sell out
crowd and all went to plan.

The reviewers were in (three of them actually). I do prefer the term
reviewer to "Critic".

It seems to me that if your job title is "Critic" you may feel the need
 to be "Critical" purely to fulfil your job description and avoid being
had up by the advertising standards board.
So in this era of Political correctness , they are reviewers.

Mind you I can still hear them from my dressing room sharpening pencils
....  reminiscent of a Gladiator sitting under the great Arena listening
 to the weapons being honed on the Grinders wheel!

Anyone who has "done" Theatre would know that "Having the reviewers in"
can be quite nerve jangling ..... for those of you who haven't done
Theatre its hard to explain .....

It's a bit like Taking your driving test, employee appraisal,final exams,
and honeymoon night all in one go.
knowing that several people are going to be watching your every move and trying to
find fault with it .OK maybe not your honeymoon night, unless you had a very Bizarre wedding
NO I don't want to know!

This experience is WORSE in the Faulty Towers show. Why?

Well if you haven't seen the show then you may not realise we do not work on a stage.
