Mary McClinton, a sixty-nine-year-old Seattle-area resident, visited the Virginia Mason Medical Center to take care of a small problem with her eyes. What ensued was one of the most horrific deaths in the history of hospital care.

How in the world did someone mistake cleaning solution from a medical dye. That poor woman and her family. I couldn't even imagine what they went through.

that is very pathetic..but the nurse was extremely careless. it would have been better if she never went to the hospital in the first place.

very bad indeed but which one of us will trow the first stone?

THIS CLEARLY SHOWS THAT MEDICAL CARE HAS TO BE A COMPLETE AND TOTAL EFFORT BY OUR HOSPITALS TO DO BETTER AND NEVER ALLOW SUCH MISTAKES, ESPECIALLY THE DEATH OF A PATIENT FOR SUCH MINOR PROCEDURE THAT BECAME MORE THAN MAJOR!!

Yes, it's pretty scary to think about, but I guess sometimes things like this happen, although the nurse CLEARLY was an idiot...

i think the problem is more then just a nurse mistake because any doctor would of gave her a blood test and saw what the real problem was

I , DO HOPE THE NURSE LOST THE RIGHT TO PRACTICE,NOT ONE HUMAN IS PERFECT, BUT WHEN YOU HOLD THE LIFE OF ,SOMEONE ELSE IN YOUR HANDS, YOU SHOULD TRIPLE CHECK ALL MEDS AND ORDERS SO SUCH AS THIS MAY NOT HAPPEN.

I counted five coincidences of "malpractice" or ill fate following each other. I have to infer that there was an unseen hand pushing her through the fatal series. Sad story of the inevitable.

These careless mistakes do happen. My Dad told the nurse that he was allergic to penicillin and he would be allergic to iodine too. But she did not listen and continued to inject the dye. My Dad passed out ( the doctors were checking about his cervical problem). A junior nurse who was there, and had heard the entire conversation, immediately rushed the doctors in to revive my dad. He would have gone then only but was saved. Though he did not press charges, the hospital dismissed the nurse.

Wow, that's a pretty serious mistake. I am glad your father is okay.

Hvala, zanimiva pošta! Takih primerov v zgodoini je veliko....mala napaka, ki je terjala življenje. Mnoga življenja so ugasnila zaradi napak medicinskega osebja. Hudo je za tiste, ki so neposredno vpleteni v dogodek in posledično prizadeti....
