wow... see I agree with the drug testing... I have heard of people trading food cards for money to buy drugs... so yes I think we need that, does it put make us held accountable for the things we do yes for goodness sakes when I was pregnant I had to take all sorts of tests I didn't want to take, so why should someone getting free money get to be any different? Yes I may be comparing apples to oranges with that statement but I am just pointing that we all at some point have to do things we don't want to do that is life. To me if they really want the help, then pee in a dang cup prove your not doing drugs and move on go to the grocery store and buy your food.

I agree. I really don't think this is a violation of civil rights. I can foresee the business of selling clean urine with warming pads is gonna go WAY up~! Unless you're on probation they can't watch you pee, I'm assuming the same with welfare benefits testing... I dunno though they might assign a bathroom monitor LOL...

You know I was thinking to you have to do a drug screen for most jobs now too why the heck should it be any different for people on getting food stamps?? Seriously at my husbands work if they get hurt in any way have any type of accident they are sent for a drug screen. Before he started there they had to do a hair folical test shoot going to court for my step daughter both parents had to have a hair folical test done so yea I think its perfectly legal what isn't is people that say they need assistance when instead they take that food stamp money go buy someone food and then get money from then in which they can go buy the drugs.... sorry this is annoying to me...

I read in another story the ACLU was getting involved because people are wanting to file suit to pull back this law so they won't lose their kids (and benefits). Seriously, don't do drugs and it will eliminate that problem!

yeah i wish they would do that for a job you have to take a drug test and they have the right to random drug test you thats not a civil matter but for public aid it is? wheres the equality people working jobs should have the right to claim that not someone who hasnt worked has kids and isnt learning i cant afford more but keeps having them they should have to take the test you really need iot that bad youll do whatever it takes to get the help

This is like 25 yrs ago but I remember being so broke that I was rationing Ramen noodles, living check to check and I was in the grocery store check out line and this women in front of me was buying steak, beer, just a TON of stuff and I'm sitting there with my 10 for a $1 Ramen noodles LOL... then the woman peeled out a bunch of food stamp dollars to pay for it and then they rang up her beer purchases separately and she pulled out a wad of cash that would choke a dinosaur to pay for her "luxury" non-commodity items. Made me think for the first time in my young life at the time that perhaps the welfare system needed overhauling.

If the government is going to start testing everyone on welfare, they should at least provide the clean piss and hand warmers too. So where's it going to stop? How about everyone that gets a drivers license has to piss. How about everyone that breathes free American air has to piss. And why stop at drugs? Why not go for STDs and then publish the findings in the local paper. Why not make it mandatory that everyone gets a government sponsored colon exam every year, of course the procedure will be broadcast on youtube by social security number. Bring back blood tests in all states before we get married, just like it's 1980 all over again... I'm sure there are some Southern states that still have the law on the books just so cousins can see if they're compatible before they have the Enquirer baby. We should also make church going mandatory, and if anyone blastphemes, then let's burn them at the stake. Let's bring back the middle ages. How much further back in governmental evolution do we need to go? We can legislate ourselves back to Babylon if that's what it takes, and this law seems like a great first step in that direction.

I really see this being fast-tracked to the Supreme Court stat.

@Smartest - You are on fire today baby! You brought back memories of my first marriage - we had to get a syphilis test to get our marriage license, it was state law at the time.

I just noticed the reply, the system ain't sending me emails like it once did.

SO what was the point of getting syph tests... if two people are to the point of getting married, they've probably given it to each other anyway. Crazy 70s and 80s thinking.

Yeah right? Neither of us had that or anything else - I wanted to curl up and die from embarrassment for even having to be tested but my sister and friends told me they lived through it too......

i think this law should pass maybe then some people will stop having babies just to get a higher amount of stamps just so they can turn around and sell them for drugs or whatever else they need at the time that they deem important.

@Tara - It is already looking like at least 5 other states are ready to adopt this law. It's kind of much ado about nothing. There are companies like PerfectUrine.com that sell drug free urine and it comes with a warming pad so it's the perfect temp coming out of the bathroom. There's no way to regulate the people who are going to cheat the system in this manner.

Wow I really had no idea that you could buy urine over the net lol you would really have to be so far gone in your drug addiction to go to that extreme. This just blows my mind! all i can say right now is wow! I would never even think of purchasing something like that i mean ive heard of some weird things before but pee really????? lol and a little cozy to keep it room temp thats hilarious lol

I know what you mean I didn't know either. I got hired by a client to ghostwrite a comparison article for the top 5 brands and I was trolling Narcotics Anon forums and other places to find out who had used what and how it worked.
