We homeschool and I have run into Christian Fundamentalist Homeschoolers on a fairly regular basis. In my humble opinion, teaching your children that it's absolutely scientific that we were created by God and no other story will do is so intellectually dishonest to your children it's unbelievable.

Science has come a long, long way since the Bible was written. Gravity is a fact and evolution is no longer a theory and is traceable in our DNA and fossil records. I chatted with a Creationist Mother who told me point blank that DNA was a lie because DNA stood for Deoxyribonucleic acid (I was impressed she knew that even if she butchered the pronunciation) and if we had acid in our bodies, we would melt!

I don't bother presenting facts to people like this, their minds are closed and they don't want to know.
I just listen and let them ramble. It's actually interesting how hard they reach to make it sound logical. Sorry, you can't make

@Lady Sonoma - thanks for your well thought out comment. We must attend the social functions because I've heard several of those same comments. A scary statistic is 30% of the Christian population subscribes to fundamentalist beliefs. That's astounding to me that many people disregard facts.

@Anne - thanks for tossing in. I know you home school too and we've discussed the fundamentalist parents we've both encountered. I personally will never forget Leilani "Thank God for a Closed Mind". That woman was a piece of work!

heres what i think theres nothing wrong with raising kids on christian beliefs just like we should raise kids with manners etc good vales but leave room where they can think for themselves i was raised catholic when i was younger i changed religions when i was 11 because i felt my questions werent being answered and praying to a staint wasnt for me i have a jewish aunt and an athiest uncle so i think its how you do it. we dont always have all the answers but thats how god wants it so we can think for ouselves he broke what he was saying so we can understand and think on it then act on it. i hate christians who think they know everything bible says god came to the sinners he didnt judge he accepgt them where they were when he left they wanted to change they werent forced or cut down as christains the word means christ like not better than x.

@Melissa - I absolutely agree with you there's nothing wrong with raising kids with any faith's beliefs. Christian, Muslim, Jewish - whatever you subscribe to. What I do take issue with is teaching children that science PROVES the Garden of Eden actually existed or that Adam and Eve existed in the time of dinosaurs when science says quite the opposite. That's just blindly ignoring facts and lying to one's children. *That* is what I have an issue with.
