My InBox is filled to the brim every morning with emails from people about the posts in this blog.
They range from "I think like you do" to "I think like you do but I can't openly express myself because my family will disown me" to "You're going to HELL - HA HA I hope God will strike you dead!".

I got an email today asking me "to read the Bible", guess what?

I have and I've read many versions for comparison, more than 20 in fact.
Also,  the Book of  Mormon and the Jehovah's Witness "New World Translation" and a Bible Study Guide I got an eBay that asks some really nutty questions and has some pretty crazy advice. Such as there is no reason to study anything besides the Bible, because the answer is "God knows the answer to everything".
If that's true he's awfully silent about "everything".

Which is another question I have to Christians, Why do you think there are so many versions of God's word?
If there were actually a God, there would be one religion and one Bible, because God would make it known what the true beliefs should be instead of this game of hide and seek and randomly appearing on toast and tortillas that's been going on for thousands of years.

Having actually read it. I don't believe the Bible- not any version of it.
If it was supposedly written by God, the most intelligent, all knowing being in the universe, why are there such complete douche-bag ideas like slavery is good, putting people to death is good and keeping women submissive is good?

Women can't speak in church or have short hair. (Jan Crouch, Diane Bish, Joyce Meyer ...etc...well, on second thought I guess they get around that little peccadillo since they are actually speaking in a television studio and not a church-so that's one less biblical law they are breaking).
If my neighbor mows his lawn on Sunday, I'm supposed to kill him?
A rational, intelligent adult has to move forward from this nonsense.
And understand no one is saying you're wrong for believing or anything like that. I am just saying I don't and here's why.
No one is minimizing or taking anything away from whatever personal experience you have.
This is just my own personal opinion that belongs to me.

I found this at GII and I wanted to share it.

Imagine that we are good friends. One day we are talking:

Me: Wow, you will not believe this new book I've been reading!

    You: What's it about?

Me: It is a manual for living a better life. It is also a guide to creating a better society for ourselves and our children. It has changed my life!

You: That sounds like an important book. Who wrote it?

Me: The author is supposed to be the smartest person in the universe.

You: That's amazing -- if the author is the smartest person in the universe, the book must be absolutely brilliant. I can't wait to see it. Do you have a copy with you?

Me: Absolutely! I carry it with me everywhere I go! Here, have a look for yourself...

You open the book to a random page, and you find this:

Any of the people of Israel, or of the aliens who reside in Israel, who give any of their offspring to Molech shall be put to death; the people of the land shall stone them to death.

You have an amazing imagination Radical. You don't know what happens when people die - you only think you do or have faith you do but the truth is - you don't know. So stop wishing crappy things on people who don't think like you. It's petty and unbecoming for a "Man of God".

The Bible also says the world is flat and the sun moves around the earth...
I sincerely hope you believe those things aren't true because they are in the Bible.
Face it, the Bible is violent Bronze Age book that has no basis in modern society.

if God is love why would he wish harm to his children, this is an oxymoron in my point of view. how would you want people to follow others if their are not able to show compassion. wishing someone to burn in hell will certainly not be the best way to convince them that there is a god.

@Marie - good point!

i have my own beliefs, why could i not understand what it is that you are saying? i think when we make some statement it does reflect how we think overall, unless you are using a language that you were not raise into.. i am just saying that who can not understand what compassion is. Magdalena was perdonada by jesus while everyone else would treat her as a pariah. What greater teaching could jesus leave us by showing that judging others for they fault were not the demonstration of love and comiseration.

Marie, Radical thinks all forms of Christianity besides his own brand are cults, he thinks Islam is a cult and so it any other religion that isn't of his own design. Having any form of discourse with him is like teaching a pig to sing, it's a waste of time and annoys the pig. On the other hand, he likes Glenn Miller so there's hope for hope he's actually a nice guy in there.

years of brainwashing does have that effect, the no questioning of what is being taught. christianity is just a child of the late paganism. i do believe in jesus, but just as a wise men who was well versed in the oriental mystery. the fact that he spoke with parabolic meanings, to me denotes that. what happen to him between the age of thirteen and 30 years where there are no record of him? i mean in the bible.?

If god is a creature of intense love, he would not condone violence of any type. How many wars as well as mass annihilation have been carried out in the name of this one you call God? I have been told many times by numerous peoples, which consider them selves to be Christians that I am Dammed and going to Hell!

This is for Radical...Judge not or you yourself shall be judged this is also in your bible. So if I am dammed and heading for hell... Guess I'll be having a whole lot of company...lol

I would much rather be dammed and know it...The be dammed and not know it... Guess I'll see you there soon and we can both share the shovel and the endless flames...LoL

I get sentenced to an eternity in Hell on a regular basis from Bible bully Christians for what I write. I just say, "Okay, at least the music will be better and all my friends will be there".
@Marie - Eusebius (commonly referred to as the Father of Church History) said, "It will sometimes be necessary to use the falsehood for the benefit of those who need such treatment". Check out the "The Complete Gospels edited by Robert J. Miller." they cover some of the books that cover the life of Jesus during that time - there was some unpleasant events - like Jesus murdering his playmates and freaking out the people in his village by turning mud birds to life - the church decided these books were too unsettling and left them out.

thank Jolynn, for the pointer of where to look for that answer, i vaguely remember reading about that part where Jesus had done such deed but the person who wrote that was saying it was just an accident. i have no doubt about it, in the Vatican they are numerous scrolls and books that were snatched away as soon their discovery was made public. it is say that if it would come to light , this would mean the demise of the catholic religion as we know it.

I got my copy off Amazon and it's really well done and once you read it - well you'll see why so much was left out of the official biblical records. Many, many questions would be raised. Too many that especially the Vatican wouldn't want to answer - it would wake up the sheep.

The Vatican holds many secrets it will not allow out. The reasons for this is simple. world religion would fall.

@Michael - great point. And if God bothered to let his followers know WHICH religion was the correct one - a lot of strife would have been avoided...but that would mean God actually wasn't imaginary.

1 Corinthians 2:14

King James Version (KJV)

14But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

You can't use the bible to prove the bible....it doesn't work.

absolutely rubbish.....i hate such thinngs...when people try 2 defame oder religions or deir religious text.... deir is nothing wrong wid ne religion....
often it is our habit to interpret things in a manner dat suits us d best hence some of us try to interpret oder religious text books in a wrong fashion
my father is a HINDU and my mom is a SIKH ...and both religions hv completely different ideologies and yet d 9th SIKH GURU sacrificed his own life to protect the HINDUS from execurtion by MUGHAL KING AURANGZEB IN INDIA...pls be nice to urself as well as oders..when we throw SHIT at oders it is suposed 2 come bak at us some or d oder day

Hello Ishita...if a Good thing happen in the name of religion , it is not a big problem...the 9th sikh guru had considered himself as a man....the debate is about existence of God and not the religion...even take the part you mentioned ...God had not saved him...A Human only saved him...If we would have been in unity without any race , cultural, religion difference we may reach the skies ...why do we need to waste our valuable time in the invaluable things

@Ishita - and you name executions and atrocities done in the name of religion. We would be a lot further along as humans if religion wasn't busy dividing people. Have you ever considered if there really was a God, he would make it known which was the true word he wanted followed and there wouldn't be so many different religions.

Of course it works. Why can't one use it to prove it is the truth? It speaks of events that have come to pass. It speaks of the current state of the world. It even speaks about you (doubters).

Even the demons believe in God, and they shudder.

It also says I need to kill my neighbor for mowing his lawn on Sunday, I need to kill my rebellious teen, I need to beat my slave and oh yeah the earth is flat and the sun revolves around the earth. I have to be submission to a man, I can't cut my hair and I may not speak in church. Okay that last one wasn't likely anyway. What was that you wrote about "it works".

Sharia law or the Bible? Ma'am, I respect your views; you have a right to believe whatever you want. The Bible doesn't tell anyone to do those things you mentioned. There were some things that took place in the Old Testament which were apart of the old covenant; some of those traditional things are in fact still carried on today (Orthodox Judaism) but they're not required. When Jesus died for our sins, He washed us clean. Of course we must repent when we sin, but we don't have to do give any animal sacrifice or anything of that nature.

Regardless of what it is you may or may not believe in, I'll pray for you. God bless.

@New Web - those things I quoted are in the Bible, but let me guess, you don't believe all the Bible applies since it is God's word, am I right? So the story of Noah in the OT is good, Deuteronomy is bad, you pick and choose as necessary.
And as you pray for me, I'll continue to hope that your mental functions return to normal when you stop praying.

No ma'am, I believe in the entire Bible; nowhere did I mention that I didn't. It seems maybe there is a misunderstanding about particular scripture and why certain things happened. If there is a genuine interest I'm willing to talk, but nothing gets through when hostility presents itself.

-Take care

new-web - having a different opinion that you shouldn't be considered hostile and I'm sorry if you feel that way. But you clicked on a blog where even the icon has fictional Jesus on a cross with the word "myth" what on earth did you think you'd find? I'm genuinely interested in opinions of others but falling into that you're feeling picked on for people feeling differently is just childish.

God is above all that!
"God does not care about our mathematical difficulties. He integrates empirically."

@Mihaela - how do you know God is above all that? That's you're opinion my friend, not a fact. There's not one shred of proof and empirically means you gain evidence that is observable by the senses. You cannot taste, smell, see, hear, or truly feel God. You can BELIEVE you do, FEEL you do and THINK you do. But there's zero physical evidence. But then again, the mind is a very powerful thing.

ok first thing misunderstood god believes in eye for eye just like some of us do also slaves in old testiments were people who owed money to someone they had to work off their debit so it was a fair trade off no more than 7 years such as the idea going on after 7 years debit is off credit report also if you chose to not make them pay it off after 7 years you couldnt go after them it was forgiven. you had to treat them right or you were wrong. next bible says a day in gods eye is like 7 years in our time. lol women my thoughts because bible says women submit unto ur husband as your husband sumits to me so if ur husband wasn't following god you didn't have to follow him. also bible says a womens beauty is in her hair so it should be long if people following the bible. the bible is inspired by god so people arent perfect so the bible is going to be confusing because how many writters are there? over 12 because theres 12 disciples so the same story could be told 12 times over & it would be a little different each time. the sunday rule is was for a day of rest relaxtion and worship jewish people believe this the most. all people take what they read all different ways. i think you ask god what he wants you to follow again christians isn't the religion jesus was he was a jew so he was explaining the behind story its like this if we wrote a book of history we would have to write about things from the past example the banning of liquor some people would ask why is that it is not a law anymore? also different version s of the bible so people can understand what their reading. thats my ideas
