The term "Free Will" comes up a lot on this blog. I get told a lot through comments and emails from Christians that they have "free will" but actually according to a lot of people I have spoken to and written, if you're a Christian, you don't have true free will.
If you are a Christian and you also believe you have free will, that directly contradicts what's in the Bible.

I had the good fortune to be seated on a 4 hour flight next to a biblical scholar and professor of philosophy. What an amazingly intelligent and thoughtful soul he was. He pointed out that Christians have limited free will at best because the only choices they are actually giving within the bounds of Christianity are the choices that God gives them. Meaning in a nutshell, supposedly God loves Christians enough not to control them, however he only gives them choices that "He" deems appropriate for the person.
That's not truly free will is it?

Which also contradicts the bible because if you read the paraphrase from
A Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, we find this remarkable paragraph in Chapter 2:

Because God made you for a reason, he also decided when you would be born and how long you would live. He planned the days of your life in advance, choosing the exact time of your birth and death. The Bible says, "You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe. Every day was recorded in your book!" [Psalm 139:16]

Good thoughts Ruth, it's intriguing to see another side! Thank you!

Thanks Ruth, a lot of believers are afraid to comment and I genuinely love hearing "from the other side" so to speak. I don't discount anyone's opinion and as long as everyone can remain respectful of the other side I see no reason religion can't be discussed. In doing so we realize how much we actually have in common as human beings and I love the unity in that :)
