I ran across an excellent article at CNN. It discusses how Jesus would actually agree with evolution.
Because evolution is the truth.

My Take: Jesus would believe in evolution and so should you

The most compelling evidence for evolution comes from the study of genes.

By Karl W. Giberson, Special to CNN

Jesus once famously said, “I am the Truth.”

Christianity at its best embodies this provocative idea and has long been committed to preserving, expanding and sharing truth. Most of the great universities of the world were founded by Christians committed to the truth—in all its forms—and to training new generations to carry it forward.

When science began in the 17th century, Christians eagerly applied the new knowledge to alleviate suffering and improve living conditions.

But when it comes to the truth of evolution, many Christians feel compelled to look the other way. They hold on to a particular interpretation of an ancient story in Genesis that they have fashioned into a modern account of origins - a story that began as an oral tradition for...

good article. i mentioned once before in an earlier blog that i was raised catholic. i always struggled when i was young and visited our museum and noted the ages of homo erectus and cro magnon men. i think i was always too afraid to question things. then i would see dinosaurs that were carbon dated to be millions of years old, and it makes the story of genesis harder to reconcile. but people's faith is very strong, and it is always difficult to have a debate between science and emotion...it almost never ends up with a conclusion that both agree on. i am walking on a fence, because of my upbringing. but i will listen to all sides. you are throwing out some information that will certainly cause some reaction (hmmm...i think i know what that is like!)

@Chuck I know you're a pro at causing a reaction ha ha! I home school my youngest child and it kind of bothers me when I hear from some of the Christian home schoolers that they are teaching their children that dinosaurs for example are a myth because history starts with the bible. That's just warped thinking in my view. But I respect someone's right to teach that just the same - I just hope their kids never get on a game show like Jeopardy and have to answer questions about dinosaurs.

Personally I like science. :)

Hi HH, I thought that about chimps too for a long time, until I watched a long documentary about them and learned at lot!

Chimps, the animals most closely related to humans, Make tools, live in structured social groups, have problem solving skills and are known to be highly jealous of territory, patrolling and defending borders constantly. Even without logging, violent clashes are known to erupt in which chimps kill each other with their bare hands and feet. In at least two documented cases, large communities of chimpanzees have systematically hunted down smaller ones and killed all members.

Did you ever see that story that happened where the ladies pet chimp, Travis that she raised like her own son attacked her best friend and tore her face off? (the lady lived and had massive reconstructive surgery).

Ref Chuck : 1. The catholic religion is not christian. 2. dinasaurs were alive during the time of man and are mentioned in the bible. 3. the 7 days of creation, are 7 24 hour days, not billions of yrs. Read and study your bible!!!!!!

The bible certainly tells the truth and will not conradict with science. In Genesis 6:4 There were giants on earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. And about million or billion of years scientist was telling about in 2Peter3:8 But beloved, donot forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. May God bless you all and ps. read the bible!

@Dua Jaan - Thanks for your input. I have read the bible, in fact I have read many versions of it. The Bible knows no more than the primitive men who wrote it and your argument is that it's true because it's in the Bible and the Bible says it is true is well. nonsense. You ask me to read the Bible, I've done it. Now I ask you, read a biology book. ;-) Preferably one by Richard Dawkins. :-)

what about the flagellar motor????

@Den - I've seen the flagellar bacteria presented numerous times as a last gasp of Intelligent Design. This is actually the part of I.D. that's pretty laughable because it's irreducible complexity they scream loudly. If you follow up on a lot of actual respectable science journals, it is in fact a reducible structure and there is enough evidence to strongly suggest this creature has actually evolved. So that sort of blows that creation theory apart once again. Read "The Greatest Show on Earth".
