How do FanBox blogger compensation algorithms work?

FanBox's compensation algorithms for bloggers are highly proprietary, as many millions of dollars and thousands of man (person) years of engineering time have gone into them.

These algorithms are also very complicated (FanBox has over 25 patent filings that are pending, and a half dozen of them were just awarded a few weeks ago by the U.S. Patent Office) and I personally do not know or understand every single detail -- just like no one (outside of a small handful of Google's engineers) truly understands all the details of how Google's algorithms work for search.

I do know a few things, and I will detail them here - with the help of a couple of the FanBox engineers – and continue to update this post as I learn more.

This topic deserves a post because it's painful to see people wasting their valuable time and energy trying things to generate earnings that simply don't work -- instead of using their time to do the things that do.

Here are a couple of key points:

#1 Going to each other's blogs (whether you leave a comment or not) in order to "give them love" or "time in blog" does absolutely nothing (as in zero, zilch, nada) for you. In fact, it could actually have a negative effect.

I simply can't stress enough how useless this type of activity is -- but somehow you still see people going around to each other's blogs and leaving messages like "Done" or "visited" or "Visit my blogs please".

In fact, the people that seem to be the most frustrated, also appear to be the same people, by far, that are doing exactly that. It makes sense that they are frustrated -- because they are working so hard at doing the wrong things, and accomplishing nothing, so of course they are feeling discouraged.

I wish I could reach them all, shake them, and ask them what it would take for them to stop hurting themselves (wasting their time and frustrating themselves) with those silly behaviors - when the way to generate earnings (that actually works) is pretty darn clear, and simple (I’ll get into that, in a moment).

#2 The other thing that does not work, is sending your blog URL around to others on FanBox -- by sending personal messages to one or lots of people, or posting it in their or your own feed, or posting it into comments anywhere including in blogs, photos, and anywhere/everywhere else on FanBox.

Again, it is so painful to watch people doing these activities - when it should be clear after the very first time they try it - that it does precisely ZERO for their earning abilities -- AND -- actually has at least four (4) negative impacts on their earning capabilities:

     A) When people feel that you are spamming them -- they click "spam" in their inbox or visit your profile to report you from there.

These signal the algorithms - which use that signal to depreciate your earnings - not to mention suspend or delete your account for the worst offenders. Nobody likes receiving junk like "read my blog: URL"...

When you do that, people think “WHY should I read your blog? All you're getting me to do is make sure I definitely ignore ALL blogs from you - including the one you just sent me -- and report you as a spammer”.

     B) When you send people spam or things they find useless, in order to protect their valuable time, they stop being your Fan or Friend. This means that, from that point forward, they WON’T receive ALL future posts from your blogs -- reducing your future earnings.

Each time someone removes you as fan or friend, the algorithms receive that signal too.

     C) Even if they don't report you or click SPAM or stop being your fan or friend, people mentally "tune you out" - making a subconscious note to ignore future things from you. Again, this has a negative impact on your future earnings.

And once again, believe it or not, the algorithms watch how ignored your posts are -- and use that information as variables in their calculations.

    D) Lastly, here's an important point for those who might attempt to cheat:

When someone attempts to cheat on FanBox, rather than deleting the account, the algorithms mark the account for deletion -- but they often don't actually delete the account until weeks or even a few months later -- in order to create maximum frustration for the cheater.

If cheating appears to be working for someone -- just you wait.  A few days, weeks or even months later, once their account is gone -- well, do me a favor and tell them this for me: "I told you so".

---------

Wow, that sounds like a LOT of things to worry about -- and we haven't even begun to scratch the surface of how the algorithms really do their thing. L

So what should you worry about – as you look to build your audience and earnings on FanBox?

 The answer is REALLY simple:

Don’t worry about anything!

Yes, that’s right. The point of those complicated algorithms is to make life easy for you, while keeping earnings fair so that YOU can actually earn money by blogging.

Without the algorithms, you would make just as much money for your blogs on FanBox as you would just about elsewhere -- which is approximately $0.00.

So, don't even think about the algorithms, and focus your limited time & energy (and unlimited creativity & passion) on:

1)   1) MAKING NEW POSTS and updating prior ones to keep them fresh;

2)   2) You can use FanBox Ads to accelerate your audience and community-building efforts – so long as you have a LONG-TERM APPROACH in mind.

As I’ve detailed in some of my other posts – there are a lot of other things you could be doing, but I am convinced by watching the trials, errors and successes of many of you, that those two efforts by far will bring you more success than posting your blog URL to facebook, fanbox and other sites; driving people to your profile, or any other activity.

That’s it! Algorithm, Smalgorithm! As long as you do those 2 things (make quality posts and promote them when they’re ready) – I beg you to trust me on this – you will be rewarded.

However, if you stray to some other seemingly brilliant scheme that your friend is selling you on to “accelerate things” - you will only frustrate yourself – like many of our dear friends have found.

Believe it or not, sometimes the simple way is what actually works best.

FanBox has spent years working on making sure this easy approach is exactly how it would work before letting the rest of us play in this sandbox.

When you find yourself exhausted after you’ve tried everything else, why not give this simpler approach a try?

And lastly, would you like to earn significantly more from your blogs?

Many are reporting earning 10 times more from their blogging efforts, from the moment they become a Power User.

Hi share
I think Fanbox would not ever do it. You have to verify your account and your husband, too. There is no problem if my husband and I use one computer with one line on Fanbox internet.

To All Fanbox Member,

Don’t worry about anything!

Yes, that’s right. The point of those complicated algorithms is to make life easy for you, while keeping earnings fair so that YOU can actually earn money by blogging.

Always think positive, do not think of your money or your earnings, just think you are just sharing good thoughts to your friends, do not expect good things in return, so that you will not feel frustrated at the end. Whatever you shared to your friends and fans just be it and let them to decide if they want to come back and visit your blog again.

Love your own work and your own blog, respect each others opinion and strategy. Mind your own and focus yourself on sharing good blog posts to others. Ignore all negative thoughts and feedback from others.

DO NOT TRY YOUR BEST SO MUCH... IT WILL BRING YOU A BIG HEADACHE!!!!

BUT INSTEAD TRY THIS.... Believe it or not, sometimes the simple way is what actually works best.

Thanks and congratulations to all,
Erica Nicole

good point Ms. Erika. Think positive and the lighter side.

Great reply. One thing I believe a little differently, I believe you do still have to think of FanBox as an online business. One you enjoy of course and that allows you to be social and create a following and make friends and make money..Thinking about the money and the business side gives a motivation to do some things for our business that are not normally second nature helping to expand your abilities. Not just chasing the money or trying to cheat the system.

The other benefit to a relaxed business attitude is the ethical behavior. we tend to watch our questionable habits when it comes to losing business (ie Money) cleaning up our language by increasing our vocabularies is a good start, Being respectful to others. Not treating Fan box like some other social sites by creating drama or being inappropriate.Rather treating it like a library where Individuals Can Add Quality content And get compensated for the activity. Activity generated by his or her contribution to the community of entrepreneurs. where people come to find great blogs to entertain and inform and to share their knowledge . it should also be fun . Just my thoughts about FanBox and its Potential.

It's good to know this. I just don;t worry myself, I enjoy making a blog or 2 now and then and given the time can update old ones. watching the money come in is always a plus, but many times i also don;t see any income generated or pennies at that, but honestly when u started with nothing and have somthing that's a profit. So everyone should be happy with that. I guess im more of the cash out once a year or twice a year type of person, id rather sit back and let it build up to a great ammount then cash out to make it worth it. even if u only make 1000 doller in 1 year thats still a heafty ammount especially where I live. as far as the rythem of sorts thank you for explaining it. you always let us know the scoop. appreciate it a lot.

Hey Johnny,
I read one of your previous posts about the best way to earn more money on Fanbox is to write more blogs...so I'm writing one blog a day everyday and it really seems to be working! It hasn't even been a full week yet and I've already earned $177! That's not bad for less than 6 hours of writing about what I want to write about! I tried to create a blog on other sites but the marketing part seemed so overwhelming. I'm so glad my friend, Arlene (aka All Arlene) told me about Fanbox. I hope this site catches on.

Welcome Rose; any friend of Arlene is a friend of mine!

I mean, who doesn't want to be friends with #1 on the U.S. LeaaderBoard??? :)

Thanks for the suggestions which I am sure many will gain from learning this good advice.

JC and BH - you are right - blog approvals are way behind - but I am told that they will be all caught up in the next few hours. Please let me know if your blogs are not accessible within the few hours.

At FanBox, blogs with photos are reviewed for adult and other content. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your patience.

Hi Johnny,
It looks like we all of us we following you. You are like a leader now.
What you should do when you post something so nice , like belly dancers from China, Brazil and another few more countries, and your fans they do not post a comment ?
Come on , What for we are Fans of? I believe that we should respect each other as well.
We all at FAN BOX members. To be respectful in all what you are doing i believe is the noble feeling.
Is the Love is the Passion around you.
When i see my Fan post something new i am going to see what it is and comment. That is a prove of my visit.
Am i rite?

Anyway, what would be your suggestion when your FANS they speed in a wrong thoughts?

hey johny does 1 earn from fanbox even if some1 who isnt a fanbox member also visits my blog url??
and secondly if sum1 has visited my blog but not my posts do i get paid for dat???
pls hlp

Jasjyot -- yes, you can earn when someone who isn't a fanbox member visits your blog. You get paid when someone reads your post (not just lands in your blog). They need to enter a post to read it.

Hope that helps.

But when a non-member enter the blog he can not read it full because there will not be that dollar sign. I assumed that we can only earn the view after someone get past that sign. Please clarify if I am right or wrong.

i hv noticed dat i have sopped receiving earnings for comment on my pics y is dat???

You don't get compensated for comments on your pics -- you never did. Only time spent in your blogs.

2 last questions johny
1.what is d basic difference between FRIENDS and FANS in fanbox???
2.is dre sumthing that comments from friends on sum1s post wont help him/her earn ..because i remember 2 months ago 3-4 of my friends commented on my posts but I did not earn anything .This happened say 2 or 3 times ??

The difference between Friends and Fans:

Friends are 2-way relationships. Both people have to accept the friendship to receive each others posts.

Fans are 1-way relationships... If I become a fan of yours, I will receive your posts. If you choose to become a fan of me too, you will receive my posts too.

For earnings, it makes no difference if someone is::

1) your fan

2) your friend

3) a stranger that received your post in their wall feed because they have an interest that matches a tag that you blogged about

Remember, when you make a new post, it shows up in the feeds of your fans and friends, plus anyone that is interested in the tags of your post.

So make sure to put tags in all your posts, so that your posts get into those extra feeds.

Bonus: This Saturday, the new FanBox Post Search will be launched, which will bring your posts even more visitors and earnings!

I am willing to bet that (within a few weeks of going live) most of your visitors -- even more than fans and friends - will be coming from the new Search - given how awesome that tool seems like it is going to be at driving visitors to the highest quality posts.

i remember 2 months ago 3-4 of my friends commented on my posts but I did not earn anything .This happened say 2 or 3 times ??

Jas - you don't generate earnings from every visitor to your blogs, and from others, you generate a lot -- so it averages out.

i did not understand excactly why??
whats d critera exactly i mean which users visit is accounted 4 generating cash and whose not??

Jas: Please read the post (above). "FanBox's algorithms are highly proprietary" -- meaning they are trade secrets.

If there were not secret, then everyone would know exactly how to "game it" or fake it to make money, and then no one could make money.

All you need to know or worry about is that the best way to make more earnings, is to make good posts that people will enjoy.

Again, please read the post (ABOVE) as I feel that I am wasting everyone's time in responding to your questions, as it is making everyone read information that they have previously read -- thank you.

Good informative post JC! I have stuck with fanfox against a lot of ridicule and good friends and family that tried to tell me it was a scam. I believe I am now seeing results. But I have a limited income and I am faced with two options. The first is to become a power user and the second is to invest my own money into Ads and blogs. Basically I think that if I invest into the community with my own cash I should have the same perks as a "power iserr" .....( currently I have turned off IPL and have starteD to fund my own activities. Any advice JC about which option to take? THANKS

nice! but i suggest to have more features on fanbox such as chatting because as you said its hard to get people attentions to read your blog but how if my blog is not just relevant and not so good but i try my best to post it because i want to post it, but others dont like it so i have no earnings from that post i hope fanbox will do other way to increase bloggers earnings not just with every post. or can we earn just to upload photos, commenting on blogs, chatting something like that. so that we can strongly build friendship and socialized with others.
