Fun in The Language....Each Language has its own.
Nadia , English wil never be complete as our"WORLD CULTURE" FINDS new ways to express ourselves. you do fine as you are right now, but listen when u know an American or Englishperson uses the language, thats where many of the new expressions come from. We "Americans " are fond of making new words n ways to use them almost as a hobby. here is a word for you.
the word For, Fore, Four. now find out the meaning of each. hehehehe all said the same way but entirely different meanings. Gob Bless Shadow :)
I am not here to hurt anyone's feelings! We are a human being and sometimes we see things in a different way.
From around 1600, the English colonization of North America resulted in the creation of a distinct American variety of English. Some English pronunciations and words "froze" when they reached America. In some ways, American English is more like the English of Shakespeare than modern British English is. Some expressions that the British call "Americanisms" are in fact original British expressions that were preserved in the colonies while lost for a time in Britain (for example trash for rubbish, loan as a verb instead of lend, and fall for autumn; another example, frame-up, was re-imported into Britain through Hollywood gangster movies). Spanish also had an influence on American English (and subsequently British English), with words like canyon, ranch, stampede and vigilante being examples of Spanish words that entered English through the settlement of the American West. French words (through Louisiana) and West African words (through the slave trade) also influenced American English (and so, to an extent, British English).
Today, American English is particularly influential, due to the USA's dominance of cinema, television, popular music, trade and technology (including the Internet). But there are many other varieties of English around the world, including for example Australian English, New Zealand English, Canadian English, South African English, Indian English and Caribbean English.
English now has over 1,000,000 words making the wordiest language in the World. i mentioned 3 days ago it was constantly re-inventing itself. Language is always evolving as we find new ways to express ourselves, no matter which countries version is used. your post looks alot like Wikipedia. as far as American English being closer to Shakespeare. i totally disagree. we learned of him in school n college but you will find the formal invocation of Shakespeare is Not American language. American English is much more informal n easy flowing.each section of this country has its own distinct version of speaking also a Southener will sound funny to a Northerner(me) an East Coaster vs West Coaster is also very different even in your own country the language changes from area to area. thats why its so much fun to see English being used over the World we alll ADAPT it to our own uses. OH when u said Australian, new zealand, canadian. south african, India those are alll versions of UK English not American. they were all British Colonies at one time..Be Blessed Always :)
Thanks for sharing more information about English language!
The Brits came over to Ireland and forced their "Strange Language" upon us. However, our writers, novelists and poets worked on it and made iit somwhat presentable to the rest iof the world, I find it starnge that "Slvr Shadow Wolf" did'nt mention anything about this.. Ohhhh, almost forgot, Irish authors, novelists and poets were ll threatend with Death if they spoke ill about the British but they found a way around that. They used to refer to Ireland as a woman or female and in turn were able to paint the British into a corner. "The Scotch hjave their Whisky, the Welsh have their Leek, Their poets are paid about Ten pence a week, provided no harsh words of England they speak....OHHH Lord, what a price for devotion!!!!!.
Liam did you know that Oxford did a study of 25 yrs of DNA of Brits, Welsh, Irish n Scots n found the DNA PROFILE was 97.9% the same for all countries studied lol. so for all the differences between these countries , chances are thru marriages that you all are of one common ancestors that inhabited the lands but feuded with each other. i was amazed myself cinsidering my Paternal grandmother was born 3-17-1900 in Ireland n came to America at 5 days of age.. the differences are religion not blood lines. amazing how small the World gets when you truly dig for answers. Oh i agree on all you said on your post, but Ireland has always been considered even with fighting part of the British Empire. thats why i didnt mention it . we were talking broader areas is all. Good Post for more info :)
Thanks Liam and Slvr you share your thoughts about this topic! I am sorry this post was skipped by me and i could not continue to reply!
