Internet Fraud and Cyber Scams

Surfing the net is easy, but many remain unaware of the threat involved with it. “From identity thefts on social networking sites, hacking of computer while surfing to theft of money while e-shopping, instances of cyber crime have been on a rise,” says VeriSign India vice-president, Rajiv Chadha. To substantiate his comment, he cites findings of a survey conducted by Indian Market Research Bureau of more than 5,000 active Internet users across 10 cities in India that suggests that ninety one percent of the respondents had experienced some case of cyber fraud.

Agrees director, Windows Client, Microsoft Consumer & Online, Rajiv Popli: “There are 49 million internet users in India , out of which 44 million use emails and close to 25 million browse the net everyday. Most of them are vulnerable to cyber crime,” he says.
