Demonization of the Wealthy

by Peter Grant on August 30, 2010   1 comment

Why do some people in general and one political party in particular tend to depict the wealthy as having too much? While it is true that some people and companies “play rough” and trample others to earn what they have, most of the wealthy work hard and invest a lot to get what they have. Why then should the wealthy be demonized? If Jesus said that the “richer will be

If you are going to improve your credit score, then logic has it that you must understand what your credit score is and how it works. Without this information, you won’t be able to very effectively improve your score because you won’t understand how the things you do in daily life affect your score.  If you don’t understand how your credit score works, you will also be at the mercy of any company that tries to tell you how you can improve your score - on their terms and at their price.

In general, your credit score is a number that lets lenders know how much of a credit risk you are.  The credit score is a number, usually between 300 and 850, that lets lenders know how well you are paying off your debts and how much of a credit risk you are.  In general, the higher your credit score, the better credit risk you make and the more likely you are to be given credit at great rates. Scores in the low 600s and below will often give you trouble in finding credit, while scores of 720 and above will generally give you the best interest rates out there.  However, credit scores are a lot like GPAs or SAT scores from college days - while they give others a quick snapshot of how you are doing, they are interpreted by people in different ways.  Some lenders put more emphasis on credit scores than others.  Some lenders will work with you if you have credit scores in the 600s, while others offer their best rates only to those creditors with very high scores indeed.  Some lenders will look at your entire credit report while others will accept or reject your loan application based solely on your credit score.

Love According 1 Corinthians 13

by Peter Grant on July 27, 2010   2 comments

There is a lot of talk about what love really is.  Many books have been written about the subject and many discussions have been convened on this one subject.  It goes without saying that love is a popular subject and for many a very passionate one.  In fact, some will give their lives for love.  Some lose their minds and blame it on love, while others lose their way in what has proven to be an endless search for this elusive air - love.

Love in itself is a multi-faceted subject and I will not attempt to cover every facet.  Also, there are different kinds of love.  Again, I will not attempt to cover every kind of love, but the source that I will use to define love uses one stone to kill all the love birds, if you will.  In other words, the qualities of love presented can be applied to all kinds of love.

Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, Chapter 13, does a superb job of defining love.  The text does not address romantic

Away With Party-Line Votes!

by Peter Grant on July 27, 2010   Post Comment

Are you as frustrated as I am with party-line votes?  Or, have you accepted that this is the way of Washington politics?  How can two political parties that purport to act on behalf of the American people produce laws that only one party will support?  It is incredible that 95% of the votes in Congress are along party-lines.  Does this mean that our country is run by ideologues who ignore the wishes of the people and govern based on a hidden agenda?

My contention is that there is no Bill that comes before Congress that is entirely bad.  Whether initiated by Democrats or Republicans, every Bill has some good in it.  The overall Bill may be bad for the country; hence the need for debate, but there is something in each Bill that can be fine-tuned to benefit the country.  Why then does a respective committee review end with a party-line vote, followed by a party-line on the floor of the House of Representatives or Senate?

In my humble opinion, there are a handful
