Beyond the single story of Africa.
In a popular TED talk, novelist Chimamanda Adichie warns of the danger of a single story, particularly as it relates to her home continent of Africa. In it, Adichie describes her middle class upbringing in Nigeria, an upbringing that seems normal by most Western standards. She contrasts that existence to the “single story” many foreigners associate with Africans, generally one of catastrophe, poverty, and foreignness.
In fact, Adichie says, Africa is a place of many stories. These photos provide a brief introduction.
