Sports Agent Blog

The MLB Draft begins next Tuesday and will last until Thursday night.  Dynasty has been working around the clock to prepare ourselves for next week.  We will be putting in very long hours!  The rain does not seem to stop here in Gainesville, FL.  If we see an hour of sunshine in a day, we consider ourselves lucky.  Today is my 6 month anniversary with my girlfriend…I have a nice little surprise for her.  She will be taking the MCAT in less than 2 weeks…better believe she is a little stressed.  Working on some big things with Jason Belmonte and Super Bowl week events.  Here are some stories I missed over the past week:

bechtaJack Bechta is the head honcho at JB Sports (Jack Bechta and Associates).  Jack has been negotiating deals for professional football players since the early 1990s, and still boasts a respectable client roster to this day.  In his time as an NFLPA Certified Advisor, Jack has negotiated over 200 contracts for his players.  The man has seen a lot in his time, and has decided to give some of his knowledge away with his column at The National Football Post.  His most recent article will make many peoples’ jaws drop, but it is an excellent foray into the world of sports agency, directly from someone who has been in the business of representing athlete for a very long time.

Been a while since we last did a Dynasty Notes column (8/25/08 to be exact), so here we go…

Baseball

  • Dan Leatherman - Last night, he picked up the win for the Potomac Nationals.  His final line was: 3.2 IP, 5 hits, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K.  This improves him to 2-0 with a 5.32 ERA on the season with the High A Potomac Nationals.  Leatherman has not walked a batter in his last 7 outings, which spans 12.2 innings.
  • Pete Parise - Parise threw 2 perfect innings (1 K) in Springfield’s loss last night.  Parise has now thrown 11.1 consecutive scoreless frames over his last 8 outings and has a 0.59 ERA over his last 10 outings.  His season ERA is 2.86 in 34.2 IP (26 K’s).  We showed you a powerpoint slide on him yesterday.  His stat line has only gotten..

GMs Playing Favorites?

First Andre Smith dropped Alvin Keels and GMG Sports for Rick Smith and Priority Sports.  Rumors circulated that Andre did this to raise his draft stock, because many teams felt more comfortable if Andre was with Priority over GMG.  As we all know, Andre went back to Alvin Keels, and Rick Smith/Priority Sports have still not forgotten (and may file suit).

More recently, Anquan Boldin dropped Drew Rosenhaus for Tom Condon and Creative Artists Agency (CAA).  And yesterday, Cardinals GM Rod Graves...

Those of you who have been following this site for a while know that we have gone through various contributors during the existence of SportsAgentBlog.com.  One of our original contributors was a man named Matthew Vuckovich.  He was one in charge of our expanding Interview with the Agent section and was so passionate about breaking into this industry that he convinced me, in April 2007, to join up and start a sports agency.  Dynasty Athlete Representation was formed with co-founders, myself and Matthew, and initially, we had read through the entire NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement because we thought that we had a shot at signing one of his friends who played professional hockey.  It did not quite work out like that, but soon we were representing a few bowlers and Kyle Dison, a former baseball player, who at the time, was looking for another chance to show affiliated baseball that he still had it.

xclusive sports managementVuckovich and I did not always see eye to eye on a lot of issues, and decided to part ways in February 2008.  I retained the rights to Dynasty, and Matthew went on to form his own agency, Xclusive Sports Management (XSM).  Kyle Dison joined him, and the two created an agency solely dedicated to representing baseball players.  Kyle is a Managing Partner at XSM.

Yesterday, Matthew had an interview with the website, Jimmy Scott’s High & Tight.
