Health benefits of milk

Consumption of milk and dairy products is associated with numerous health benefits.

Bone health

Milk and dairy products are providers of calcium, phosphorous, magnesium and protein which are all essential for healthy bone growth and development.

Adequate consumption of milk and dairy from early childhood and throughout life can help to make the bones strong and protect them against diseases like osteoporosis (a debilitating, brittle bone disorder) in later life.

Teeth

The amounts of calcium and phosphorous in milk and dairy products are also beneficial for the development and maintenance of healthy teeth.

The most abundant protein in milk is casein and is protective as it forms a thin film on the enamel surface which prevents loss of calcium and phosphate from the enamel when the teeth are exposed to acids in the mouth.

Studies have suggested that milk also reduces the effects of cariogenic foods on teeth when consumed together with them in the diet.

In fact, dentists recommend that milk is the only safe drink to have between meals (except for water) as it has been shown not to cause tooth decay even in conditions perfect for damaging teeth!

Milk and blood pressure

An increasing number of studies suggest that consuming 3 portions of dairy each day, along with 5 portions of fruit and vegetables as part of a low salt diet

7 Health Benefits of Cashews

benefits of cashewsThe cashew tree is native to Brazil, where its fruit is considered a delicacy. In the 16th century, the Portuguese introduced them to India and some African countries, where they are now also grown. What we call the cashew nut is actually the seed of this fruit. Cashews are rich in iron, phosphorus, selenium, magnesium and zinc. They are also good sources of phytochemicals, antioxidants, and protein.

Here are seven health benefits of cashews.

Cancer Prevention
Cashews are ripe with proanthocyanidins, a class of flavanols that actually starve tumors and stop cancer cells from dividing. Studies have also shown that cashews can reduce your colon cancer risk. Their high copper content also endows the seed with the power to eliminate free radicals and they are also good sources of phytochemicals and antioxidants that protect us from heart disease and cancer.

Heart Health
Cashews have a lower fat content than most other nuts and most of it is in the form of oleic acid, the same heart-healthy monounsaturated

Thyme - Health Benefits

Thyme

Thyme

Thyme has been used for various purposes throughout the centuries. In medieval times, thyme was regarded as a plant that imparted courage and vigor. The ancient Romans considered it a remedy for melancholy. Thyme, along with roses, was often added to homes in the ancient past to provide a sweet-smelling aroma. The ancient Greeks used thyme for incense while the Romans were known to add thyme to cheese and alcoholic beverages.

Exotic Names

There are about 350 species of thyme including the many cultivars. Since they readily hybridize in cultivation, their classification is quite complex. Many species are good garden plants, having a neat habit, fragrant foliage and small pink or lilac flowers. Although the flowers are small they are very numerous, and they produce copious nectar, making thyme flowers a favorite of the honey bee. Some of the finest-flavored honey comes from thyme nectar.

The thyme plants are perennials, belonging to the mint family, and exist in various shapes and colors. The plants can be erect and bushy, reaching 18 inches in height or creeping and spreading, growing to about 3 inches high. The flowers vary with many colors from white to mauve, lilac, magenta, blue-violet, and pale pink while leaf colors vary from light green to olive grey-green, golden green, dark green, silver, or bronze-tinted.

All these differences give rise to a variety of exotic names for the various cultivars

Health -" Laurel Herb"

Benefits of Laurel plant

Laurel has been known as a medicinal herb from Antiquity, when its leaves were associated with Vishnu, the Hindu god. The Greeks considered that laurel increases psychic abilities.

Description of Laurel plant

Laurel is a shrub that is found in areas with subtropical climate. It usually reaches heights between 5 to 10 meters, or if it is grown indoors it grows up to 1-2 meters tall. It is not a very finicky herb and it can stand the light as well as dark, and is also pretty immune to sudden weather changes. The leaves which last over a period of 2 to 3 years are initially soft, and then they get rougher; they contain highly fragrant etheric oils. The leaves are oval-shaped.

Once picked, laurel leaves have to be dried slowly, shaded from sunlight because in this way they can retain their fragrant oil. They give off a strong smell. Even after they are picked, they retain their pleasant smell and can be used at any time. Laurel leaves can be bought dry or green and also under the form of powder (crushed leaves), but when in powder shape, they lose their smell quicker.

Laurel flowers are small, of a whitish-green color, and the fruits (once they are fully grown) are black and bear a look similar to that of olives.
