Are you taking your shoes off as a guest?
In Canada it is very polite to take your shoes off as a guest , no matter what kind of job you have , unless the hostless says is ok to keep them on.
Kind of in trouble when happened in your house to come some kind of handy man and he needs his shoes on , due to his job.
But is not a problem , give him some plastic bags to wear over his shoes.
