Gubbaw:  Igorots’ Traditon Of Naming A Child 

 

Gubbaw is one kind of tradition that makes some of the Igorot people unique.  When a child is born, they will wait until the umbilical cord is detached from the child as a sign the baby can be named or “Maigubbawan”.

 

The ritual is called gubbaw.  This is the igorots’ traditional way of giving the child a name.  It is like baptizing in Christianity.  In the church a priest does the ceremony of baptism, while the igorot’s tradition, the elders do it. 

 

The priest directs its prayer in heaven, the Igorots call to their God Kabunyan, and to the ghosts of the dead relatives of the family. 

 

The priest use a holy water, the Igorot use a “native” chicken (not cull or broiler).  The chicken is killed through “killing me softly way” or a stick is used to whip the wings and neck of the chicken so that the blood accumulate under the skin - until it dies.  Some feathers of the wings are taken and be put away.  The

IGOROT COUNTRY:  A MISSED OPPORTUNITY?

Don’t   you know that there was supposed to be another country located in the Philippines?  However, it did not materialized because when the Kabunyan(Name of the Igorot's G-d) asked the people of the place if they want it, they rejected it.

 

1.  Citizenship:  Igorot     2.  Country of origin:  Republic of the  Kaigorotan ……. and, so on…..

 

Well, how do you feel if those are the things you are writing down in every documents you are ask to fill up about your identification? Yes, an independent country of the Igorot people.  Name of the country is KAIGOROTAN, and the capital is  IFUGAO because that is where you can find the famous rice terraces.

Three Sleeping positions that cause me nightmares

 

Since I was a child, I cannot count how many dreams gave me nightmares. I am just happy I discovered the sleeping positions that always contribute or probably the reasons why I get nightmares. Nightmare is a sleep problem that makes one suddenly awakens shouting, perspiring, and very afraid that as if the dream was true. 

1. Fetal position, one of my legs is on top of the other. In this position I always have a trouble walking, and running in my dreams. Most of the times I dream of walking but cannot walk fast no matter how much I try, and usually I got tired. Or when I wanted to run I feel my legs are so heavy and cannot get away from the one running after me or over run someone or a thing I wanted to catch, so at the end I would wake up tired, and breathless.
