Santolina

Santolina is a genus of flowering plants in family Asteraceae, comprising about 5 to 24 species. It is native to the Mediterranean region. Santolina is an easy to grow, small evergreen shrub, growing to about 10-60 cm tall. It has leaves that are simple and covered with silvery hairs. The flowers are yellow, 1-2 cm diameter, growing on top of slender stems which is held 10-25 cm above the foliage.

Santolina can be grown in mixed borders and rock gardens. They can also be pruned to create low hedges around a herb garden. In order for it to look neat, cut stems back by about half every spring. After each flowering, light shear over plants to remove the heads.

Nerine is a genus of flowering plants belonging to family Amaryllidaceae, comprising about 30 species. It is native to South Africa, and widely cultivated and hybridized and can be found world wide.

Nerine is a bulb plant, with each bulb around 3-5 cm in diameter. In late winter and spring, the plant produces several strap-shaped, dull green leaves of 20cm long and 1 cm wide, arranged in two rows. By late spring, the leaves die down and the bulb is then dormant until late summer. By autumn, each bulb produces a single naked stem of about 30cm tall, and a cluster of 2-12 funnel-shaped flowers in pink, red, white or orange-red color; follow by strap-shaped leaves. Each flower is about 4 cm in diameter. Nerine species are suitable for containers.

Armeria is a type of flowering plants. It is sometimes known as thrift or sea pink as it is found mostly by the seaside or in the wild on cliffs and mountains. There are more than a hundred species of Armeria. The plant is native to the Mediterranean but can be found throughout much of the northern hemisphere.
